PEAR & PARSNIP PURÉE

A perfect first food for weaning

This purée combines both sweet and savoury with a hit of dairy which is really satiating for a hungry baby. Pears also contain b vitamins which are really important for veggies and vegans...

Ingredients

  • 1 large Parsnip
  • 2-3 Pears
  • 50g Cheshire Cheese or Wensleydale

METHOD

Scrub and then roughly chop your parsnip and pears and chuck them into a steamer. I prefer to leave the skin on as there are so many nutrients in the skin, but you can peel them if you prefer. Steam until tender, around 8-10 minutes. I use a steamer saucepan but any method is fine, even boiling but it's not ideal as you will lose some of the vitamins to the water. Then pop everything into a food processor and crumble in the cheese. Mix until smooth or alternatively mash with a potato masher or feed through a vegetable mill. Spoon into an ice-cube tray or small pots and leave to cool before freezing.
